Good evening everyone. I have some unique news to share with you.
JR Hokkaido has announced that it will begin operating two new luxury tourist trains in 2027, approximately one year later than originally planned.
JR Hokkaido Railway Operations Headquarters Deputy General Manager Toshimi Kawado stated, “We would like to work on this in a way that will promote the attractions and charms of various parts of Hokkaido.”
The new luxury tourist train, “Red Star,” will begin operating between Sapporo and Abashiri in February 2027, coinciding with the drift ice tourist season, and will then operate between Kushiro and Shiretoko-Shari in April 2027. Fares have yet to be determined, and further consideration will be given.
The “Blue Star” will begin operating on the Furano Line, connecting Asahikawa with Biei and Furano, in June 2027. Both trains were originally scheduled to begin operation around spring 2026, but modifications to the carriages have been delayed.
The trains are designed by Eiji Mitooka, who has worked on numerous tourist trains, including JR Kyushu’s “Seven Stars.”

“The areas that appear green are actually tatami mats. So, please take off your shoes, step onto the tatami mats, and move to your seat.”
Why not enjoy Hokkaido aboard this train and stop by the Sapporo Escort Club?
