The “Select Sale 2025” held at Northern Horse Park on July 15th ended with a bang, recording a record high total sales of 32.7 billion yen over the two days (about 3.8 billion yen more than last year). At the final day’s yearling horse sale, 240 horses were listed, and sales reached 17.154 billion yen. The average price per horse was over 75.23 million yen, and the highest price of interest was 580 million yen for Midnight Bizu 2025 (male), a son of Equinox.

Yoshida Teruya, acting president of the Japan Racing Horse Association, did not hide his surprise, saying, “It’s amazing that such an amazing auction actually happened. I think people all over the world will be amazed. I don’t think there are many auctions in the world where several horses go for over 100 million yen.” He added, “I think what stood out was the depth of the Japanese horse racing fans, or the depth of the customer base. It feels like the entertainment industry as a whole is booming.” This year’s sale, which attracted attention from both within Japan and overseas, once again demonstrated the presence of Japanese horse racing to the world.
